I started using the pelican logo on my surfboards boards back in 2013 after I trained in rescuing injured seabirds. I dedicated a lot of time on the Noosa River trying to help pelicans that got caught in fishing lines and hooks. The pelican decal got a refresh after five years, swapping it out for the Sooty Oystercatcher decal, which happens to be another one of my favorite seabirds that can be seen along the coastal shoreline of the national park.
When the winds are offshore, pelicans skillfully ride the updrafts created by the waves. It may seem like they're surfing with ease, but the physics behind their lift is actually pretty complex.
